50 Years of Garden of Eden

We hope you enjoy our slide show of photos, flyers, and bags from our archives.

The early days, 1972 – 1988, were exciting times of discovering new products and selecting the best locations for our stores. We figure we’ve had stores in at least eight locations since 1972.

We have a couple of photos of Elaine Kleinbaum, who started as bookkeeper for the founders of Garden of Eden, Susan Nowling & Gayle Frank. Elaine became the CEO in the 1980s and remained at the helm until her passing in 2003.

The 1990s were a period of focusing on our best locations. Our flagship location was the Grand Avenue Store, pictured on slide 4.

In the early 2000s, Linda Kleinbaum took the reins as CEO and consolidated operations. We upscaled our logo so that the packaging of our private label products would match the quality. We also got to participate in a citywide memorial for cartoonist Charles Schultz by decorating Lucy in front of our St. Paul store (slide 5).

We had dozens of talented gals and a few guys serve as managers, merchandising coordinators, and more throughout the years. Some of our staff are pictured in slide 6, as dressed for St. Paul’s Grand Old Days Parade.
